Match report: Pursuers 0 v 1 GovanSat 14 August 2004 After 3 long weeks of pre-season training, for most, Pursuers first Friendly of the new season took place on Saturday at Garscube Sports Complex against Strathclyde Saturday Morning League outfit Govan Amateurs. With new team boss Femi insisting that all players turn up early (or at least on time) this season it was interesting to see the Pursuers going through a vigorous warm up whilst our opponents lazed about in the August sunshine prior to kick off! With 16 Bodies to choose from manager Femi decided to give everyone at least a 45 minute workout. With the new 3 man defence working well other that Dawson's dodgy header back to McKinnon after 5 minutes Govan never looked like scoring. Only other highlight of the fist half was Chris Byrne heading the ball, no honestly !!! Pictures to appear later ! Half Time 0-0. With 5 changes made at half time it took a little time for the Pursuers to settle into their free flowing football and just as they did Govan hit them with a sucker punch with Brian Mohan being out powered by their 4ft 10" 9 stone winger who then threw in a low cross for their centre forward to tap the ball passed the helpless McKinnon. Shortly afterwards Pursuers has the best opportunity of the match when Cunningham sprung the Govan offside trap with a perfectly timed run down the left hand side. As the pursuers bench cheered him on towards the Govan goal Cunningham stopped turned round, thanked them for their support then kick the ball off the post! - Gaz WE PLAY TO THE WHISTLE! The excitement clearly got to Kev "Kylie Car" Kane as after only being on the park for 20 minutes he was subbed and Mir returned to the action. Reports that suggest that Mir was put back on the park to allow others at the side to talk are as of yet un-confirmed. With both wide men, McKinlay and Cunningham tiring during the last 20 minutes chances for the Pursuers became less and less and those that were created were squandered with Brown and "Brido" being the worst offenders. Fully Time 0-1. Next match sees Pursuers take on 1st Division side Glenavon at their new Home - Glasgow Green.
