Match report: Pursuers 1 v 1 WanderersSat 12 March 2005 ( Underlined text links to photos ) On a Saturday morning that saw 9 changes from the previous week's winning team it was surprising to see Pursuers start so strongly even against a struggling Wanderers. Perhaps this was due to the late arrival of referee Dan Boyle who had somehow managed to leave the house without any of his kit!! - At least he did turn up as promised. (click here to see how Dan should have looked) Having already threatened down the right on several occasions, mainly through the 'out of the huff for this week McKinlay' it was no surprise when he supplied the ball to J McLeish who turned and saw his shot thunder into (and then straight out of) the bottom left hand corner, that Pursuers were one up inside 10 minutes. Pursuers then spent the next 15 minutes failing to take there chances with Kane and Gordon missing opportunities by either hitting the goalkeeper or the bar. Pursuers then had a lucky escape when for a frantic 3 minutes Mir needlessly gave the ball away inside his own half and force McKinlay into a foul just outside the area. The resultant free kick was duly rattled off the Pursuers post despite goal keeper Kenny's insistence that the ball was going wide. Pursuers continued to play some nice football mainly though (another) trialist simply known as 'Barra' until half-time. HT 1-0 The second half saw Wanderers come into the game more and with the wind against them Pursuers were unable to dominate in the same way they had the first half. Despite this the clearer chances continued to fall Pursuers way with Kane somehow missing from three inches. Both Kane and McLeish then spent the next twenty five minutes arguing with each other until McLeish was brought back into midfield as Dillon tired. 1-1 Pursuers then had most of the pressure as they attempted to get back in front. They did however almost lose one at the other end and hatchet centre half Mohan was forced to "trip" their midfielder. This was clearly only ever a yellow card offence but Mohan attempted to get himself a red by showing an aggressive attitude towards the referee. Thankfully Mohan only saw Yellow. Pursuers could not break down the Wanderers defence and failed to make it back to back wins as the final whistle blue it ended Pursuers 1 Wanderers 1. This weeks (Sat 17 March 2005) see's the Pursuers travel away to Allander. Hugh Levens |
